Stroke affects nearly 500,000 people each year and is considered the third major cause of death in the United States. Mobile Infirmary’s Stroke Center offers a revolutionary treatment that can actually reverse effects of a stroke.
Anti-clotting medicines given within a short period of time after the onset of an ischemic stroke may stop the stroke's progress and actually reverse some of its damage.
Mobile Infirmary is the only hospital in the region to offer several new techniques of stroke treatment. For some patients, a tiny tube can be inserted into the blood vessel inside the brain to dissolve larger blood clots. For other patients, a balloon can be inserted to open blockages that can cause strokes.
The key to this drug therapy is seeking immediate medical treatment; therefore knowing the warning signs of a stroke are critical.
